I found some great new scoops on Alland Byallo, a name any dance music fan who pays attention will surely hear more of in the near future. First, to my pleasant surprise, Flavorpill Miami made a nice mention of our party this Saturday night. Here’s a blurb…“A resident of San Francisco’s hugely successful monthly Kontrol party, Byallo’s got a deft mastery of early-’90s techno that’s rarely heard ’round these parts.”
Read the whole thing here.
Next, I found a great interview that Blipswitch did with Alland which really sheds some light on what makes him tick. There are too many good blurbs in this piece to choose from, but here’s a few:
Asked about how Kontrol has evolved… “I think we’ve gotten to a point now where people really trust our taste, and whether we book a top tier performer or somebody with a bit less press hype, we know we’ll get a good turnout of people who are curious and interested in hearing the talent.”
I’d be lying if I said I don’t hope to be able to make this statement myself one day soon.
Asked about starting his own label Nightlight Music… “I found that my music was a bit too techy for the house labels I worked with, and a bit too housey for techno labels.“
That’s what made me an Alland Byallo fan years ago when I randomly came across a set of his floating around online… it’s house… it’s techno… it’s just some damn good music!
Read the whole interview here.
Oh yeah, one more thing… we’re moving the DJ booth out onto the dancefloor Saturday night. That probably doesn’t mean much to most of you. But for those of you who were at my first Laundry Bar party with Justin Martin… you know how much this energizes the dancefloor. This will rock!

I’ve gotta give it up for DJ Way and his Gooshie House
creation for bringing DJ Heather back down to Miami. I’m especially grateful since I missed her during conference. DJ Heather has always brought incredible energy to the dancefloor and I expect this time to be no different. Joining Heather behind the decks will be her Chicago mix-mate Jonn Hawley and Gooshie House head man himself. I have never had the pleasure of hearing either one of these guys in person so I am plenty excited about this show.
Here’s a blurb about her I took from the OM website:
“A pioneering veteran of the Chicago DJ scene, Heather has done it all. As a member of the first all female DJ collective Super Jane (w/ Om label mate Colette), a label founder and artist on her own Black Cherry Recordings imprint, a critically acclaimed Fabric resident DJ, a 2007 Coachella Music Festival Performer, and an artist featured in the hugely successful “House of Om” series on Om and more, DJ Heather proves that a woman’s work is never done!

Ok, I know you’re probably thinking right now that I booked Justin Martin for my birthday. Close. We’ll be glad to have his brother Christian and their Dirtybird colleague Worthy!! Yup, we’re doin’ it Dirtybird style at The Vagabond for my birthday, Saturday May 24th (my birthday is the 25th).
Back to Justin Martin for a second. I would love it if you’d check out his new remix of Radiohead-Nude and then vote for it.
Ok, back to my birthday, yeah, this will rock. I’m psyched about doing it at The Vagabond. I just read a great article in Map Magazine about Miami’s thriving artistic counterculture and it hit home. The article made heavy mention of The Vagabond and one of it’s storied partners Carmel Ophir, who’s comments resonated perfectly with my vision for a club in Miami. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
———
At the Vagabond, which is divided into separate rooms and an outdoor garden, Ophir is pushing a philosophy of “You are No One / You are Everyone / Stray No More”. “We feel passionate about giving the audience a place where anyone and everyone is ‘special’,” he asserts. “We are giving a variety of ‘vibes’ to choose from, both musically and aesthetically. There are no illusions about the multitude of club choices out there, but we hope to be the one that most will call home.”
———-
With Function-One sound and three areas including a sweet garden patio, The Vagabond provides a variety of environments to please a variety of senses. And it really looks like the people behind this place are the real deal. It would only be appropriate for me to thank Diego for hookin it up. This should prove to be the first of many awesome nights put together by MusicalMissionary and FutureMob .
And it’s only appropriate that our first party be a Dirtybird party. If you already know how party-rockin these guys are, then I’ll see you there. If you haven’t been able to make it yet, please do. The Dirtybird sound is straight-up booty-shakin and their range is unique.

Worthy on Youtube
The only bad thing about my birthday is that my girlfriend will be on the other side of the world. God willing I will rendezvous with her two days later in Cairo.

The first one I posted was a temp while I waited for Laundry Bar’s graphic designer to whip up a quality print version. Thanks Scully!
Scully will DJing at Laundry Bar this Friday night for Basshead Productions 7 Year Anniversary alongside internationally acclaimed Vex’d, Hive, and 12th Planet and Miami’s Burn and Mad MC. Vex’d are a duo of electronic music pioneers who mix sounds from break beats, drum n bass, dub step, and ambient in very creative ways. I’m psyched about seeing them live in Miami… a very rare treat!

Oh yeah, and I finally booked my flight to Egypt. It hasn’t really sunk in yet. Neither has the fact that I will miss Movement in Detroit after the blast I had there last year. But I’m sure Detroit will be the last thing on my mind as I stand in the presence of the ancient Pyramids of Giza. But I did manage to schedule a layover in London to finally visit the legendary club Fabric. Coincidentally, Luciano, Pedro, Terry Francis, Shinedo, and Model 500 will be playing that night. Happy Birthday to me!

I’m excited about this one… another LaVillaTech Production! Their first show was very refreshing… large warehouse space with MAJOR sound, lights, decor, the whole nine yards. And I wouldn’t be thorough if I didn’t comment on the healthy proportion of gorgeous women at their first event. And the music… yeah, the music… INCREDIBLE! Their first show featured one of my favorite’s… NYC’s Connie and her buddy Nicola Zanatta along with Switzerland’s Michael Ho and Miami’s own Midnight Perverts.
I first heard Connie when she opened the festivities at last year’s WMC Made Event Sunday School for Degenerates. Miami was fortunate enough to get her back not long after and I seized the opportunity to chat with her during a long walk on the beach. Connie is one seriously cool chick and an awesome DJ.
Oh yeah, back to the point… LaVillaTech’s next event with Pheek! In addition to the wealth of information on his myspace page, I found some more cool anecdotal info on his discogs profile. Suffice it to say this Pheek guy has quite an impressive resume, including labels such as archipel, m-nus, contexterrior, telegraph, and thinner. So I’m pretty psyched to see what he can do on a big rig sound system. Also playing at this party are Miami’s own Chris Ellis and Michael Louis (copycat!) along with an unannounced surprise guest.
I wouldn’t miss this if I were you…
(but don’t get too wasted because you have to come to my party saturday night)

The party at Miami Art Space on Friday night with Mark Henning was a lot of fun. It was hard to pay much attention to the DJs/music with so many different areas to hang out and everybody spread out across the complex. The party had more of a happy socializing vibe than a hoppin dancefloor vibe. That was mostly a product of the unique venue layout and the great weather that enticed people to chill outside where the music was still loud enough to enjoy.
I’d like to give a shout out to the MDPD presence on the street corner who shot us a friendly smile as we arrived around 1:30am and left around 5am. There were still a lot of people there when we left but I missed my power nap earlier that night so I tired a little earlier than usual.
Saturday night I didn’t make it out because my girl and I wanted to have an outdoorsy Sunday. Had we made it out, we would have passed by this party at Laundry Bar. I had heard some good things about the headliner D’Jam but never had the pleasure of hearing her firsthand. I still haven’t heard any feedback so I have nothing more to report on that.
Went fishing with my girl out off of Key Biscayne today and caught… nothing. But we certainly fed a lot fish with all the bait we lost. We stopped by the infamous Jimbo’s for the spectacle that is his annual birthday celebration. But alas we didn’t stay too long as I wasn’t in a position to allow myself the luxury of getting as wasted as everyone else that was there. I have a test tomorrow…

I am very excited to get my dance on tonight. The only beats I’ve heard since conference ended have come from my car or my computer speakers. In other words, I’m ready for some serious AMPLIFICATION!
I’m also excited because this will be my first time attending a party put on by Theevanhood… always fun to witness another promoter’s vision.
Here’s some info they posted about the party:
tvh prsnts:
PL0T feat.
Mark Henning [Cynosure/Foundsound/Trapez | London]
Born in 1977 to English and German parents, he has spent most of his life in England, though has never forgotten his German techno roots. Inspired by a whole range of music (from Dan Bell to Dinosaur Jr. to Ed Rush & Optical), Mark-Henning’s sound sits somewhere between house and techno, with a healthy dose of futuristic bleeps, funk, darkness, groove and deepness.
Mark has established himself as a player in the scene over the last couple of years, not just through his productions (on labels such as Cynosure, Trapez, Freude am Tanzen, Foundsound, Einmaleins, Frankie, Morris Audio, Safari Electronique, Mo’s Ferry, Milnor Modern), but also through his European-wide performances – mixing up his own clever style of deep, yet jackin’ house and techno to get the dancefloor kicking up a sweat. His releases have found their way into the record boxes of the likes of Craig Richards, Brett Johnson, Akufen, Fumiya Tanaka, Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin to name just a few. Additionally his tracks have been included in compilations such as MANDY’s latest Fabric mix and Magda’s Minus mix – as well as acheiving airplay on BBC Radio 1’s late night underground shows.
Balancing his heavy day job in London with his music wasn’t easy, but the hard work over the past few years is beginning to pay off. Mark is now a sought-after producer and remixer in the underground scene and his DJing has taken him all over Europe – all whilst holding down a corporate job in London. Watch out for his debut album on Soma in the summer of 2008 plus more remixes and EPs.. c ya friday!

I am VERY excited about showcasing Alland Byallo to Miami’s dance music fans. This guy has impressed me for a long time and I am psyched that things finally came together for this gig at Laundry Bar. I met him online a little over 2 years ago after I came across a mix set of his. It was some of the deepest deep house I had ever heard. Over the last 2 years his sound has blossomed to incorporate a healthy range of house and techno. If you’re anywhere near Miami on April 26th, you do NOT want to miss this party.
Pleeeeeease do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the various mix sets posted on Alland’s website. He also happens to be a talented graphic designer so his website pretty much has all you need to get acquainted with him.
I am equally excited about having Michael Louis play an extended opening set. This kid is straight up musical talent. No joke, when I had Bill Patrick and Dennis Rodgers (Robots, NYC <- there are some AMAZING mix sets on their site) at Laundry Bar last year, they declined to play their afterhours slot because they were groovin hard to Michael’s set and did not want to interrupt the zone he was in.
Treat yourself…

It’s about damn time! I’ve been contemplating this blog thing for a while now. My main vision for this blog is to promote the DJs that I book here in Miami as well as DJs I’m interested in who are booked by other promoters. Of course, my ADD will kick in from time to time and I will eventually post about all kinds of stuff from technology to business to politics. But music is the main focus.
Over the last year, Miami’s dance music scene has enjoyed an increase in representation from the “underground” part of the dance music spectrum. (I’ll define “underground” here as a DJ who’s name brand alone is not sufficient to fill a club in Miami). Fortunately, a handful of independent promoters have been bringing this kind of talent to increasingly supportive crowds. People around the world are taking notice. Just today, I was speaking with an agent from Vital Talent (formerly TCA and Chaotica) and he pointed out how word is getting out that Miami’s receptiveness to undergound dance music is on the rise. This is great news for those of us who want to hear new beats and rhythms in our clubs. As word gets out, more and more DJs will want to play here… and Miami’s dance music scene will enhance its global notoriety.
With all that said… let’s get this party started…
